At the beginning of 2023, in Dadinac, Serbia, local citizens and Blue Heart partner Pravo Na Vodu have been tirelessly defending the Rupska River from the construction of the Besko small hydropower plant. Protests, which have lasted over 60 days, include a 24/7 site blockade and support from regional river defenders, such as the “Brave Women of Kruščica” from Bosnia. Protestors urge authorities to revoke the plant’s building permit, granted despite the ecological impact on this precious waterway and are calling for solidarity across borders.
